The centerpiece of the program is English Renaissance composer John Sheppard’s Media vita (In the midst of life) written during London’s most deadly influenza epidemic that likely took the life of Sheppard himself. Accompanying this 20-minute masterpiece is music by Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre’s setting of When David Heard, and John Tavener’s Song for Athene.
